“Landscapes of great wonder and beauty lie under our feet and all around us. They are discovered in tunnels in the ground, the hearts of flowers, the hollows of trees, freshwater ponds, seaweed jungles between tides, and even drops of water. Life in these hidden worlds is more startling in reality than anything we can imagine.” — Walt Disney, Secrets of Life – A True Life Adventure, 1957

Wildlife and nature are and always will be integral to the experience of Walt Disney World. From the start Walt Disney always expected the Florida Project to include undeveloped land set aside for wildlife conservation. Today approximately 1/3 of Walt Disney World’s over 40 square miles is permanently set aside as conservation land, this is known as the Wildlife Management/Conservation Area or (WMCA) and this land will never be developed, paved over, or built on. This means the visitors to Disney World are sharing their vacation with a diverse array of birds, reptiles, fish, and mammals who are permanent residents of the Most Magical Place on Earth.
