White Tailed Deer – Yes, you can see White Tailed Deer at Disney World and we are not talking about watching Bambi at your resort during Movies Under the Stars. Over 500,000 White Tailed Deer call Florida home and are divided into three sub-species. These are the Florida Coastal Deer found in the panhandle, the Florida White Tailed Deer found throughout the peninsula, and the endangered and diminutive Key Deer that make their home in the Florida Keys. Any deer you see at Disney World is most likely a Florida White Tailed Deer.

While not commonly seen at Disney World, spotting White Tailed Deer on Disney property is not particularly surprising either. If you want to try to spot them, three of the best locations are at Fort Wilderness Campground, in the grass off of Vista Boulevard near Fort Wilderness, and underneath the EPCOT Monorail tracks on World Drive near the Wilderness Lodge where they like to congregate in the early evening. If you see one, do not approach it and definitely do not try to touch it, White Tailed Deer are often covered in ticks which carry Lymes Disease.

Of course, white tailed deer play a starring role in the 1942 animated Disney classic, Bambi and in 1968 Disney produced the Deer Family, an educational short film as part of the True-Life Adventures series.
