Yes, you can see coyotes at Walt Disney World without going into a theme park! Coyotes exist in all 67 of Florida’s counties, which means they can be seen on property at Walt Disney World. We were lucky enough to see one in the early evening hours of February 8, 2020, on Disney Vacation Club Way across from Saratoga Springs Resort. Don’t worry, we didn’t get that close – the beauty of zoom!

Pictured above is the coyote we saw outside of Saratoga Springs Resort looking directly at us in February 2020.

We are not the only ones! In 2018, a guest posted a picture of one on Reddit that they spotted near the Ticket and Transportation Center. So yes, you too can see coyotes at Walt Disney World without even going into a theme park!

Coyotes are adaptable medium sized (approximately 30 pounds) canines that can easily be mistaken for a dog. They are shy and not particularly aggressive, but they can be unpredictable if cornered or frightened. If you are fortunate enough to see one, admire it from a respectful distance and please do not feed it.

Disney’s interest the lives of coyotes predates Disney World. In March 1961, The Coyote’s Lament aired on Walt Disney Presents, season 17, episode 7.  The episode is an animated feature about a young coyote pup and his father and grandfather discussing the world from their perspective and their relationship with a nearby ranch guarded by a barking dog (Pluto).
